Ruler or Traitor?

HAIL CAESAR! is an asymmetric game where players are either the Emperor, or a Usurper.The twist is that these roles change hands throughout the game as players take each other out.When the Emperor is ousted, the killer takes their place.

Choose your Faction

Choose your faction and experience different playstyles!The Military is inherently powerful, but they grow restless without action. Their cards are focused on all or nothing moves.The Plebeians' power rises and falls with the will of the mob. Use the persecution against you to your benefit and become more powerful the more trouble you cause.The Senate is the institution of intrigue and whispers. Learn what other players are hiding, take their best cards, and pit them against one another.The Traders deal in gold, the lifeblood of power in the Empire. Use cards to earn it, invest it, or just steal it, then bully your opponents through sheer wealth.

These factions have a Rock-Paper-Scissors style relationship, each having a counter faction to avoid and take advantage of.

How to Play

BUILD A LEGACY
Players first build a bloodline by taking 3 of the 18 unique character cards, fashioned on real emperors of Rome with preferred factions and special abilities.When your first character dies, draw the second and play as them, your descendant.

INFLUENCE ROME
Each round players use cards against one another to compete for influence over a faction.The strongest card wins and the lowest card gets a mark, making them an easier target for the Emperor.However, winning is not always your best move, so time your cards carefully.

PLANT THE SEEDS
As a Usurper, sneak particular cards into the other players' hands to influence the Empire how you wish.Lie, steal, distribute spies.
Whatever it takes.

KILL YOUR FRIENDS
Play an assassination card into the round and force the Emperor to react!If they play the weakest card of the round, your attempt goes through.Make your attempt with one of the 16 unique assassination cards, each with mini-games to decide the victor!
